Tibetan Buddhist retreats attract all kinds of people. On one of them I met a druid. As you know a druid is a Keltic magician. When asked whether he practiced black or white magic he answered that there is only grey magic since you take energy from one item and transfer it to another.

This exciting idea applies to a lot of situations. Take food, for instance. In order for u to live we take energy from a plant which, in most cases, dies because of that.

Whether this reasoning also applies to the consumption of meat and/or fish I leave up to you. Among Buddhist this is a heated debate where the kindness that Buddhist proclaim is sometimes hard to find.

Just some thoughts.

Retraites bouddhistes tibétaines attirent une grande variété de personnes. Sur l’un d’eux, j’ai rencontré un druide. Comme vous le savez, un druide est un magicien celtique. Lorsqu’on lui a demandé s’il pratiquait la magie noire ou blanche, il a répondu qu’il n’y avait que de la magie grise puisque vous prenez l’énergie d’un article et le transférez à un autre.

Cette idée passionnante s’applique à beaucoup de situations. Prenez de la nourriture, par exemple. Pour que vous vivez, vous prenez l’énergie d’une plante qui, dans la plupart des cas, meurt à cause de cela.

Si ce raisonnement s’applique également à la consommation de viande et/ou de poisson je laisse à vous de décider. Chez les bouddhistes, cela est un débat féroce où la gentillesse que les bouddhistes proclament est parfois difficile à (re)trouver.

Juste quelques pensées.

Tibetaans boeddhistische retraites trekken allerlei mensen aan. Op één daarvan ontmoette ik een druïde. Zoals je weet is een druïde een Keltische magiër. Op de vraag of hij zwarte of witte magie beoefende antwoordde hij dat er alleen grijze magie is, omdat je energie van het ene item neemt en het naar het andere overzet.

Dit spannende idee geldt voor veel situaties. Neem eten, bijvoorbeeld. Om te kunnen leven nemen we energie van een plant die daardoor in de meeste gevallen sterft.

Of deze redenering ook geldt voor de consumptie van vlees en/of vis laat ik aan u over. Onder boeddhisten is dit een verhit debat waar de vriendelijkheid die boeddhist verkondigen soms moeilijk te vinden is.
