Your Honour, dear members of the jury,

Both mind and body claim that they don’t need each other anymore but there is a lot of evidence that they do. Just remember the testimony of miss exercise who clearly saw them working together.

Descartes, a child of the mind accuses the mind and body of adultery. He claims that there is a little fellow inside our body who coordinates the communication between body and mind since body and mind are not of the same nature. That little fellow, called homunculus, has never been found. So the person that body and mind secretly visit does not exist. Hence, the accusation of adultery cannot be proven.

Please keep in mind that one of Descartes’ most famous quotes ‘je pense, donc je suis’ is sometimes translated by ‘I doubt, so I am’. The reasoning is that we can doubt everything so the only certainty we have is that we are able to doubt.

I strongly advise the jury not to trust the testimony of a man who hallucinates and doubts a lot…

The marriage contract clearly states that it is the body and not the mind who decides when to fall asleep. So the mind has to stop “feeding” the body with caffeine to stay awake and pills to fall asleep.

The wedding vows are clear: “In sickness and in health”: The mind has to stop thinking it must only treat the symptoms when the body is ill. Instead it should listen to the body.

The body has its flaws too. For example; It has to stop lying to the mind  that it needs sugar and fat to be happy. Meditating and loving kindness are better alternatives.

I ask the jury not to let the body and the mind become each other’s prison any longer but to give them both a work sentence like exercise or – even better- send them to a relationship therapist like yoga or meditation.

Le corps et l’esprit disent qu’ils n’ont pas besoin l’un de l’autre, mais il y a des preuves qu’ils le font. Il suffit de penser au témoignage de Madame Mouvement qu’elle a clairement vu travailler ensemble.

Descartes, un enfant de l’esprit accuse son père et sa mère d’adultère. Il prétend que quelque part dans le corps il y a un petit gars qui coordonne la communication entre le corps et l’esprit parce que le corps et l’esprit sont si différents les uns des autres. Cependant, ce mâle, appelé homuncules, n’a jamais été retrouvé. Ainsi, ceux qui visitent secrètement le corps et l’esprit n’existent tout simplement pas. L’accusation d’adultère n’a donc pas été prouvée.

Gardez à l’esprit que la prononciation la plus célèbre de Descartes ‘je pense, donc je suis’ est parfois traduite par « Je doute, donc j’existe ». Le raisonnement ici est que nous pouvons douter beaucoup, sauf le fait que nous avons des doutes.

Je conseille le jury à se méfier fortement du témoignage de quelqu’un qui hallucine et doute beaucoup…

Le contrat de mariage stipule clairement que c’est le corps – et non l’esprit – qui détermine si l’on s’endort. Donc, l’esprit doit cesser de « nourrir » le corps avec de la caféine pour rester éveillé et les pilules pour s’endormir.

Le vœu de mariage est clair; en maladie et en santé. L’esprit devrait cesser de traiter seulement les symptômes lorsque le corps est malade. Il serait bon d’écouter le corps.

Le corps a aussi ses défauts; Par exemple: Le corps devrait cesser de mentir à l’esprit qu’il a besoin de sucre et de graisse pour être heureux. La méditation et la compassion sont de meilleures alternatives.

Je demande donc au jury de ne plus condamner le corps et l’esprit à la prison de l’autre, mais de leur donner une peine de travail – le sport par exemple – ou, mieux encore, de les envoyer à un thérapeute relationnel comme le yoga ou la méditation.

Lichaam en geest zeggen dat ze elkaar niet nodig hebben maar er is bewijs dat dit wel zo is. Denk maar aan de getuigenis van juffrouw beweging die ze duidelijk heeft zien samenwerken.

Descartes, een kind van de geest beschuldigt zijn vader en moeder van overspel. Hij beweert dat er ergens in het lichaam een ventje zit dat de communicatie tussen lichaam en geest coördineert omdat lichaam en geest zo van elkaar verschillen. Dat mannetje, homunculus genaamd, is echter nooit gevonden. Dus diegene die lichaam en geest stiekem gaan bezoeken bestaat eenvoudigweg niet. Dus is de beschuldiging van overspel niet bewezen.

Hou er rekening mee dat de beroemdste uitspraak van Descartes ‘je pense, donc je suis’ soms vertaald wordt als ‘ik twijfel, dus ik besta’. De redenering is hier dat we aan veel kunnen twijfelen behalve aan het feit dat we twijfelen.

Ik druk graag de jury op het hart dat men de getuigenis van iemand die veel hallucineert en twijfelt sterk moet wantrouwen….

In het huwelijkscontract staat duidelijk dat het het lichaam is – en niet de geest – die bepaalt of men in slaap valt. De geest moet dus stoppen met het “voeden” van het lichaam met cafeïne om wakker te blijven en pillen om in slaap te vallen.

De huwelijksgelofte is duidelijk; in ziekte en gezondheid. De geest moet stoppen met enkel de symptomen te behandelen als het lichaam ziek is. Het zou er goed aan doen dan eens naar het lichaam te luisteren.

Het lichaam heeft ook zijn/haar tekortkomingen; Bijvoorbeeld: Het lichaam moet eens stoppen met de leugens naar de geest toe dat het suiker en vet nodig heeft om gelukkig te zijn. Meditatie en mededogen zijn betere alternatieven.

Ik vraag de jury dus om lichaam en geest niet langer te veroordelen tot elkaars gevangenis maar om ze een werkstraf te geven – sport bijvoorbeeld – of, nog beter zelfs, ze naar een relatietherapeut zoals yoga of meditatie te sturen.
