If you are busy in spiritual learning, your personality sometimes hardens due to pride and arrogance. It is as if you reduce a God to the state of a demon. Your teaching has become an anti-teaching. If you commit yourself to spiritual learning and the teachings your personality has to refine itself more and more, become sensitive. Act towards everyone as if you were their most humble servant. Here’s an example of this teaching: When I attend a ceremony there may be people present for who it was their first time in a temple. For them it is quite difficult to follow the recited text. When we repeat several pages 3 times they get lost and can’t follow where we are in the text. Some people stay focused on their text and are not willing to help. Whenever I see a puzzled face I show them where exactly in the text we are. I do not do this to show off my expertise but because one day I was new to the rituals as well and I still remember how strange it is not to be able to follow what is recited. I am with pleasure their ‘most humble servant’.

Dit is hier een voorbeeld van: Als ik een ceremonie bijwoon zijn er soms mensen bij voor wie het de eerste keer in een tempel is. Voor hen is het moeilijk om de gereciteerde teksten te volgen. Vooral als we bepaalde passages een aantal keer herhalen kunnen ze moeilijk vinden waar we precies zitten. Sommigen blijven echter naar hun eigen tekst staren en willen niet helpen. Als ik een verbijsterd iemand zie wijs ik ze aan waar we precies zitten in de tekst. Ik doe dit niet om mijn kennis te etaleren maar omdat het vroeger ook mijn eerste keer was en nog goed weet hoe vreemd het voelt om niet te kunnen volgen wat er gereciteerd wordt. Ik ben dan ook met plezier hun ‘nederige dienaar’.
